Every breakthrough begins with a simple question. For Headovations, it started in the driver's seat of a family car.
Like any parent, Ben — the founder of Headovations and a father of three young children — cherished family road trips. But every time his children fell asleep in the back seat, he watched their heads bobbing helplessly forward and sideways with every turn and brake.
Knowing this was uncomfortable, exhausting for their small muscles, and potentially unsafe, Ben searched for a solution. Finding nothing that safely held a sleeping child's head upright without restricting them, he decided to build it himself. That was the birth of NapUp™ — and within a short time, thousands of families worldwide finally found peace of mind on the road.
One afternoon, after selling thousands of NapUp units worldwide, Ben received an unexpected call from a special-needs kindergarten teacher. A student's parents had brought a NapUp to class — but when she tried to attach it to specialized medical frameworks, it simply wouldn't adapt to that type of equipment. Ben gently explained that NapUp was created purely for everyday family travel and was not optimized for specialized medical frameworks. That conversation wouldn't leave his mind.
His market research revealed something shocking: at that time there were virtually no functional, dynamic head-positioning solutions for children with complex physical needs. Determined to bridge this gap, Ben engineered HeadAloft™ — dynamic, gravity-defying head support with a universal, tool-free design, without taking away the child's freedom of motion.
When HeadAloft launched, it didn't just help young children. Teenagers, adults, post-stroke patients, individuals living with ALS and people recovering from traumatic brain injuries started using HeadAloft and saw the immediate impact it had on their overall quality of life.
To solve challenges like severe scoliosis, kyphosis and lateral leaning, Ben engineered the 360™. And when families wanted this same support on everyday home furniture, we developed the Perimeter Belt, adapting the system to recliners, chairs, beds and standing frames.
What started as a fatherly instinct to protect three sleeping children has evolved into a globally recognized, FDA-listed medical-device ecosystem — trusted across 27 countries and 46 US states.
Whether you are an individual looking for the best head support possible, a frequent flyer using NapUp FLY, a parent driving your kid to school, a therapist setting up a complex wheelchair configuration, or a caregiver seeking the best for their loved one — we are dedicated to restoring comfort, dignity and independence to every single journey.
